Constantina Flexibles has won the German Packaging Award 2024 with its EcoPeelCover

Constantina Flexibles has created EcoPeelCover and with this new product the company has won the German Packaging Award. EcoPeelCover is a pioneering thinned lidding solution for PP cup materials and it has been specifically designed for the dairy sector.

Being presented with this award, highlights the company’s commitment to innovative packaging, sustainability and excellence. The inspiration behind this creation, was to produce a packaging solution for Privatmolkerei Bauer GmbH & Co KG, which would portray the company’s dedication to creating more sustainable solutions for its customers.

The German Packaging Award was created by the German Packaging Institute (DVI) and it takes place annually. The award honours innovative and creative packaging solutions within an array of categories, including stability, design and finally, functionality.

Constantina Flexibles has become the world’s third-largest producer of flexible packaging and the company has developed as far as it has whilst continuing to follow their guiding principle of ‘People, Passion, Packaging.’ Currently the company employs 9,580 people and it manufactures tailor-made packaging solutions at thirty-six sites, all based within sixteen countries. Sustainability is always a top priority for the company and along with the company often being the go-to choice for consumer and pharma industries, when they want sustainable and innovative products, Constantina Flexibles was also rated Level A – by Climate Change Leadership (CDP) and Gold by EcoVadis in 2023.

Their latest invention, EcoPeelcover, is the thinnest lidding solution with superior puncture resistance and the purpose of this product is to be as thin as possible, whilst also maintaining the high standards of mechanical properties that are found within standard die-cut lids. Furthermore, the benefits of this new product are evident through the way the aluminium thickness is reduced to 25µm and extrusion coating to 13 grams/m²—down from the previous 38µm thickness and 24 grams/m² coating layer. This reduction and improvement proves that the contemporary design enhances material and energy efficiency. Plus, although the product is thinner, it has already been proven that it retains the necessary amount of puncture resistance, corrosion resistance and peelability. On top of this, the product is also capable of supplying protection against water vapour and oxygen, consequently making it a brilliant barrier when it comes to preserving the quality of dairy products.
