Disposable plastic cutlery and crockery banned in Dutch hospitality sector
What has changed?
Do you work in the hospitality sector? You cannot offer your guests disposable plastic cups, plastic cutlery, and meal containers to use on site in your establishment. This also applies to festivals and company restaurants.
If it is really necessary, you can choose to keep using specific disposable plastic cups, cutlery, and containers, on the condition that you collect 75-90% of these for high-quality recycling.
For on-site consumption reusable crockery is the principle: the washable coffee mug in the office and washable plates and cutlery in eating establishments. Only care institutions are exempted.
For whom?
- Catering establishments
- Festivals
- Offices
When?
This change in law has come into force on 1 January 2024.
